An elegant palette shaped board, with a pointer shaped like a paintbrush. With a large pointer and large holes, it can be used by young children beautifully, developing their “sewing” skills. It starts children on the parallel use of both hands, each performing a different type of action, taking their eye-hand co-ordination skills to a much higher level.

This classic toy is an absolute favourite among children as they sit for hours decoratively threading the palette.

Threading a board is like sewing, a delicate yet simple operation that is extremely effective in developing eye-hand coordination and dexterity since children have to use both hands simultaneously. The hand movements involved in moving the pointer up and down and in transferring grip to the thread lead to the development of writing skills. As children focus for long durations while playing with the toy, they effectively build their concentration skills. By creating different designs and patterns with the thread, they get a chance to explore and express their imagination.

ACTIVITIES

  • Simple Threading
    • Show the child how to hold the paintbrush with three fingers - thumb, index and middle finger. Push the pointer through the hole. Once the pointer enters the hole, let go and pull it up from the other side, like sewing. The bead at the end acts as a knot.
  • Pattern Threading
    • Show the child how to thread designs like alternate, outside, cross, etc. Threading when shown to the child must be slow and thorough, pulling the thread tight at the end. This enhances interest in the activity
